Keynote lecture title:
Design of mass customized manufacturing systems for ultraprecision production of smart glasses and their implementation perspectives

Professor Cheng’s current research interests focus on the design of high precision machines, ultraprecision machining systems, smart cutting tools, AI-driven manufacturing, and digital/e-manufacturing systems. He has led the Ultraprecision and Micro/Nano Manufacturing Theme at Brunel University London and has coordinated major UK, EU and industry-funded research projects.

He has served as PI for numerous research projects, authored extensive scientific publications, contributed patents, and supervised many PhD researchers. His academic work has received international recognition through awards, editorial activities and keynote invitations at leading international conferences in manufacturing science and engineering.

Carsten Gachot received his PhD from Saarland University in Germany, where his research focused on laser interference patterning, metallic surfaces and tribological applications. His scientific work has been recognized through several awards, including the European Honda Initiation Grant, the Leibinger Innovation Award in Laser Surface Texturing, and Best Lecture/Teacher Awards at TU Wien.

He was an academic visitor in the tribology group at Imperial College London and is currently head of the Tribology Research Unit at TU Wien. He is also Chief Editor of Industrial Lubrication and Tribology and Associate Editor of Friction.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nikola Bursac

Professor Dr.-Ing. Nikola Bursac has been Head of the ISEM – Institute for Smart Engineering and Machine Elements at Hamburg University of Technology since October 2022. In 2025, he was appointed to the Scientific Society for Product Development (WiGeP).

Before joining TUHH, he worked at TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH + Co. KG in the field of model-based design, agile development and virtual product development. He began his academic career at IPEK – Institute of Product Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where his research and teaching focused on product generation engineering, agile development of complex systems, CAE and design optimization.
